Selk'nam
The now extinct Selk’nam or Ona people were nomadic tribes - great hunters and warriors with deep spiritual beliefs. They were also one of the tallest people on the continent which enhanced the dramatic ‘spirit’ costumes they created from their natural surrounds and wore for various ceremonies. The captivating Selk’nam were native to the Tierra del Fuego Islands in the Patagonian region of Chile and Southern Argentina. The last Selk’nam shaman Kiepja died in 1966.
